Sell Agatha Christie First Editions
Agatha Christie remains one of the most collected authors in twentieth-century crime fiction. Early first editions, books in the original dust wrapper, signed or inscribed copies, and exceptional later titles in fine condition can all be of interest to collectors.
John Atkinson Fine & Rare Books regularly handles rare crime fiction and is particularly keen to hear about Agatha Christie first editions, signed copies, presentation copies, collections, letters and books with notable provenance.
Which Agatha Christie books are most likely to be valuable?
The earliest Christie titles are generally the most sought after, especially in dust wrapper, but condition and issue are vital. Later books can also be desirable if they are signed, inscribed, exceptionally fresh, or accompanied by related material such as letters, photographs, envelopes or documents.
- Early UK first editions.
- Copies in the original dust wrapper.
- Signed or inscribed Christie books.
- Presentation or association copies.
- Collections of Christie first editions.
- Related letters, photographs, cards, envelopes or archives.
Dust wrappers are especially important
Agatha Christie dust wrappers are often fragile, highly visual and central to value. A copy with the correct original jacket, especially an early title, is a very different proposition from a jacketless copy. Please photograph the front panel, spine, rear panel and both flaps. If the price is present, include a clear photograph of it.
Signed Agatha Christie books
Signed Christie books can be highly desirable, especially when the inscription is early, personal or connected to the circumstances of publication. If your copy is signed “Agatha Christie”, “Agatha Mallowan” or otherwise inscribed, please photograph the whole page, not just the signature.
Do not clean or repair the book first
Before selling, avoid taping tears, cleaning the wrapper, removing bookplates, erasing pencil marks or carrying out repairs. Well-intentioned work can reduce value. Send photographs first and let us advise whether anything needs attention.
