£45.00

First edition, first printing. Published by Bodley Head in London, 1966. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper is bright and clean, aside from some slight toning to the top right-hand corner and slight chipping to the top of the spine. It has not been price clipped and shows the original 25s net price. The boards are without notable wear and are tight at the spine. There is some moderate foxing to the side text block, which extends to browning to the front and rear flaps. This copy is free from previous owners ink and is, overall, in near fine condition.
Set in Haiti under the rule of François “Papa Doc” Duvalier and his secret police, the Tontons Macoutes, the novel explores political repression and terrorism through the figure of an English hotel owner, Brown.
