A first edition, first printing published by Longmans, Green and Co in 1955. A very good book without inscriptions, some minor bumping to the foot and head of the spine, the text blocks bright and crisp with some slight spotting. In a very good unclipped wrapper with some minor chipping to the spine tips and corners and with some internal spotting. The dust wrapper executed beautifully by John Minton.

Behind the Mirror is a gripping psychological thriller that delves into the depths of human nature and the consequences of obsession. The story follows protagonist Patrick Penny, who becomes entangled in a web of deceit and manipulation after he meets the enigmatic and alluring American, Melanie. As Patrick becomes increasingly ensnared in Melanie’s dark world, he must confront his own desires and unravel the truth behind her mysterious past. Maugham’s novel masterfully explores themes of identity, illusion, and the blurred lines between reality and fantasy.
