A first edition, first printing of Toby The Tram Engine by The Rev. W. Awdry, published by Edmund Ward, London in 1952, illustrated by C. Reginald Dalby. A near fine copy with a neat gift inscription in blue ink to the front end-paper, light bumping to the spine tips, boards a little rub worn, the text block bright and crisp. In a good unclipped wrapper, with chipping to spine tips and knuckles of front and rear flap folds, chipping and closed tears to upper edge of front panel and chipping to the lower edge, surface rubbing to front panel, toning to the back panel with large open tear to the upper edge.
