In a very good price clipped wrapper, toning to the spine and upper edge of front and rear flap folds, with closed tears to the top front hinge of spine and upper knuckle of rear flap fold, chipping and small closed tears to the spine tips, chipping to knuckles of rear flap fold, a small closed tear to lower edge of front panel. Jacket painting by Tom Andrews.

The Vivisector by Patrick White is a novel exploring the life of Hurtle Duffield, an Australian painter consumed by his artistic vision. White portrays him as a “vivisector” of human experience, dissecting life’s rawness for art while struggling with intimacy and love. The book delves into themes of isolation, ambition, creativity and sacrifice. Through Duffield, White questions whether true art demands detachment from ordinary human connections, creating a powerful portrait of genius and alienation.
