First edition, first printing of Memento Mori by Muriel Spark, published by Macmillan, London in 1959. A near fine copy free from inscriptions, fading and ghosting to the spine, rubbing to extremities, bumping to the top edge of rear board, toning to the text block. In a very good unclipped wrapper, chipping to the spine tips, extensive chipping to head of the spine, chipping to knuckles of front and rear flap folds, fading to the spine and ghosting from internal restorations also to the spine tips, some shelf wear to the rear panel.

Memento Mori by Muriel Spark is a darkly comic novel about aging, mortality and social pretensions in post-war Britain. The story follows a group of elderly acquaintances who begin receiving anonymous phone calls reminding them, “Remember you must die.” As secrets, rivalries and hypocrisies emerge, Spark explores human vanity, fear and the absurdities of old age. With sharp wit and precise prose, the novel blends satire and existential reflection, highlighting life’s fragility and the inevitability of death.
