First edition, first printing. Published by Basil Blackwell in Oxford, 1938. This is a very good copy. The dust wrapper, finely illustrated by Helene Carter, is slightly creased at the spine and with general corner wear. There are two mild tears to the bottom edge. The first is at the hinge and is greater than the second, which appears towards the right-hand corner. It is a beautiful wraparound design. The original publishers cloth is with a blue whale motif and orange titling to the front panel and spine. There is mild fading and sunning to both panels and to the spine, with other slight blemishes present. The text blocks remain mostly bright and the internals clean. There is a previous owners bookplate pasted to the front fly leaf, with the owners name signed in blue ink. Overall, this is a very good copy.

The story of “one of the largest babies [whale] ever born”, supposedly.
