A first edition, first printing published by The Mysterious Press in 1988. A near fine book without inscriptions in a near fine unclipped wrapper with some internal staining to the bottom edge.
The story is inspired by the real-life unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, a young woman whose mutilated body was found in Los Angeles in 1947. In the novel, two fictional LAPD detectives, Dwight “Bucky” Bleichert and Lee Blanchard, are assigned to the case. As they delve into the investigation, they become entangled in a complex web of corruption, secrets, and personal obsessions. The novel explores the dark underbelly of post-World War II Los Angeles and delves into the lives of its flawed and morally ambiguous characters.
