Howard Spring – The Houses In Between – First Edition 1951
£35.00
First edition, first printing of The Houses in Between by Howard Spring, published by Collins, London in 1951. A near fine book inscribed and dated in blue ink to the front free end paper, boards bound in original scarlet cloth with gilt titling to the spine, some pushing to the upper corners and the text blocks lightly toned. The very good unclipped wrapper with browning to the spine, open tears to the spine tips and knuckles of front and rear flap folds and closed tears to the front and rear panels. Jacket design by Lynton Lamb.
The Houses in Between by Howard Spring is a sweeping historical novel following Sarah Undridge, a strong-willed woman who witnesses profound societal changes from the Victorian era to post-World War II Britain. Through her personal struggles, relationships and shifting fortunes, the novel vividly portrays London’s transformation and the impact of war, politics and class divisions. With rich characterisation and intricate storytelling, Spring crafts a compelling saga of resilience, love and the passage of time.
