First edition, first printing of The General in His Labyrinth by Gabriel García Marquez, published by Cape, London in 1991. A near fine copy with errata slip, free from internal inscriptions, boards bound in publisher’s original green cloth, with gilt titling to the spine, some pushing to the head of the spine and spotting to the top edge of text block. In a near fine unclipped wrapper, bumping to head of spine and upper knuckles of front and rear flap folds, chipping and closed tear to foot of spine, light shelf wear to rear panel and toning to rear flap fold.

The General in His Labyrinth by Gabriel García Márquez is a historical novel that re-imagines the final days of Simón Bolívar, the liberator of much of South America. As Bolívar journeys down the Magdalena River, physically ill and politically defeated, he reflects on his past triumphs, betrayals and lost ideals. Márquez portrays the hero not as a myth, but as a flawed, fading man. The novel blends history and fiction to explore power, disillusionment and legacy.
