Elizabeth Bowen – The Heat of the Day – First Edition 1949
£95.00
First edition, first printing. Published by Jonathan Cape in London, 1949. This is a very good (or better) copy. The dust wrapper is with some toning throughout and some mild chipping and rubbing to the top and tail edges. There are slight scuff marks to the spine and red ink to the rear panel. There are handling marks throughout. It has been neatly price clipped but shows the 9s. 6.d net price. The boards are free from notable wear and are handsome in the publishers cloth. The text blocks are very slightly toned but remain clean and free from foxing. This copy is free from previous owners inscriptions and is, overall, in very good (or better) condition.
Elizabeth Bowen brilliantly recreates the tense and dangerous atmosphere of London during the bombing raids of World War II.
