A first US edition, first printing of Beat The Dealer by Edward O. Thorp, published by Blaisdell (Random House), New York in 1962. A near fine book free from internal inscriptions, boards bound in publisher’s original navy blue cloth with gilt titling to the spine, embossed author’s signature in gilt edged cartouche to front board, toning to the text block, with six flashcard tables in an envelope affixed to rear paste-down. In a near fine unclipped wrapper, chipping to the spine tips and knuckles of front and rear flap folds, a closed tear to top edge and lower edge of front panel, some spotting and browning both internally and externally.

Beat the Dealer by Edward O. Thorp is a groundbreaking book published in 1962 that revolutionised blackjack strategy. Using mathematics and probability theory, Thorp developed the first card-counting system, proving that players could gain an edge over casinos. The book introduced concepts like basic strategy and the “Ten Count System,” empowering players to make strategic decisions. It sparked widespread interest in advantage play, influencing both professional gamblers and the casino industry. It remains a classic in gambling literature.
