First edition, first printing. Published by Cassell in London, 1964. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper, illustrated by Barbosa, has some wear at the corners and bumping at the spine tips. It has not been price clipped and shows the original 25s net price. The green publisher’s buckram is without notable wear though does have a slight lean. The text blocks are mostly white, but with some spots of foxing. The internals are free from previous owners ink, though there is one small inscription to the rear flap. This is a near fine copy.

Though she is only a little girl, the Queen is already the object of malicious intrigues that extend from her native country to the court of France. It is to France that Lymond must travel, exercising his sword hand and his agile wit while also undertaking the most unlikely of masquerades, all to make sure that his charge’s royal person stays intact.
