A first edition, first printing of More Prayers and Graces, collected by Allan M. Laing, with illustrations by Mervyn Peake, published by Gollancz, London in 1957. A near fine book free from internal inscriptions, in original publishers blue cloth bound boards, with tarnished gilt titling to the spine and embossed gilt illustration to front board, some spotting and toning to the text block, spotting and associated foxing internally throughout, with a small previous bookseller’s stamp to rear paste-down. In a near fine wrapper, showing applied 3’6 price label to rear panel and front flap fold, fading to the spine with apparent erasing of original 6 pence pricing to spine, some chipping to spine tips and knuckles of front and rear flap folds, foxing to front and rear panels and hinges of flap folds, similarly mild foxing internally.

More Prayers and Graces, collected by Allan M. Laing and illustrated by Mervyn Peake, is a charming anthology of prayers, blessings and poetic reflections. A sequel to Prayers and Graces, it features selections from various traditions, emphasising gratitude, faith and humility. Peake’s whimsical yet evocative illustrations add depth and warmth, making the book both a spiritual and artistic treasure. Ideal for families, it captures the beauty of simple, heartfelt devotions with literary and visual elegance.
