A first edition, first printing published by Hutchinson in 1961. A near fine book with a little spot into the pages and pages without inscriptions. In a very good spine faded, squares clipped dustwrapper with some mix and light chips. Compiled with free access to the private files of Liddell Hart, it takes its title from the well-known quotation: Ludendorff: ‘The English fight like lions.’ Hoffman: ‘But don’t we know that they are lions led by donkeys’. This book is the inspiration for Joan Littlewood’s acclaimed stage musical ‘Oh, What a Lovely War!’.
