A first edition, first printing published by Hutchinson in 1961. A fine book without inscriptions in a very good unclipped wrapper with some light internal repairs. Some chipping to the spine tips. Fading to the spine. Compiled with free access to the private files of Liddell Hart, it takes its title from the well-known quotation: Ludendorff: ‘The English fight like lions.’ Hoffman: ‘But don’t we know that they are lions led by donkeys’. This book is the inspiration for Joan Littlewood’s acclaimed stage musical ‘Oh, What a Lovely War!’.
