A first edition, first printing published by Hutchinson in 1961. A near fine book with one neat name and date to the front endpaper. In a very good unclipped dustwrapper with some light chips to the corners and spine tips. Compiled with free access to the private files of Liddell Hart, it takes its title from the well-known quotation: Ludendorff: ‘The English fight like lions.’ Hoffman: ‘But don’t we know that they are lions led by donkeys’. This book is the inspiration for Joan Littlewood’s acclaimed stage musical ‘Oh, What a Lovely War!’.
