£2,950.00

A first edition, first printing published Arnold in 1910. One of 2,500 copies of the first edition were printed – 4 pages of adverts to the rear and 8 page catalogue tipped in.
A very good book – small area of cover close to the spine and edges of front cover are lightly faded. Corners of covers lightly worn. A few pages at front of book have small stains. The binding is straight and tight. NO remainder mark. Previous owners name (St. John Lucas) on front end page – small stain to the prelims – gutters a little cracked. A story about class differences, social conventions, and family dynamics in turn-of-the-century England.
The plot revolves around the intertwined lives of three families: the wealthy and conservative Wilcoxes, the intellectual and idealistic Schlegels, and the lower-middle-class Basts. The story is set against the backdrop of social and economic changes in England during the Edwardian era.
The Author’s masterpiece, notably filmed in 1992 with Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson.
