A first edition, first printing of William Golding’s ‘Lord of the Flies’, published by Faber in 1954. A very good book with just a little mottling to the spine. White titles on red cloth clear and bright. No inscriptions. In a very good clipped wrapper with some light internal reinforcement to the spine. The spine is, unusually, not browned. A little wear to the extremities. Accompanied by the rare wrap-around band. Faber produced the E. M. Forster’s choice band after the first copies had sold out (before being reprinted). Such bands are scarce now and not mentioned in the bibliography. Scarce
