A first edition, first printing of Mr Britling Sees It Through by H. G. Wells, published by Cassell, London in 1916. A very good book with a previous owner’s name and date in black ink to the front free end paper, boards bound in publisher’s original green cloth with debossed title framed by a foliate border to the front board, tarnished gilt titling to the spine with similar debossed foliate border, boards a little rub-worn, toning and spotting to the text block, light spotting to the prelims and damp-staining to the front paste down and front free end paper.

Mr. Britling Sees It Through by H. G. Wells follows Hugh Britling, a writer in rural Essex whose comfortable life is shattered by World War I. At first optimistic about Britain’s role, he gradually confronts disillusionment, fear, and personal loss—especially when his son goes to the front. Through diary-like reflections, domestic scenes, and wartime upheaval, Wells portrays the emotional journey of a nation grappling with modern conflict. The novel became one of his most resonant depictions of civilian experience during war.
