Percival Everett – Erasure – First US Edition 2001
£750.00
A first edition, first printing of ‘erasure’ published by New England in 2001. A near fine book, without inscriptions, in like wrapper with a small stain to the foot of the spine.
A sharp, satirical novel about Thelonious “Monk” Ellison, an African American writer frustrated by the publishing industry’s demand for stereotypical “Black” narratives. In protest, he writes a parody novel full of clichés—’My Pafology’—which ironically becomes a massive success, forcing him to confront questions of race, identity, and authenticity.
The novel inspired the 2023 film ‘American Fiction’, written and directed by Cord Jefferson and starring Jeffrey Wright. The film closely follows the novel’s themes, earning widespread acclaim for its wit and critique of race in American culture.
