Andrew Geer – The Sea Chase – First Edition 1949
£85.00
First edition, first printing of The Sea Chase by Andrew Geer, published by Collins, London in 1949. A very good copy free from internal inscriptions, boards bound in original publisher’s blue cloth, tarnished gilt titling to the faded spine, toning to the top edge of text block, some damp-staining to bottom edge of text block, fading to upper edge of front and rear boards. In a very good unclipped wrapper with substantial chipping losses to spine tips and knuckles of front and rear flap folds, chipping to the upper edge of front and rear panels, slight fading to the spine, toning and damp-staining to rear panel.
The Sea Chase by Andrew Geer, published in 1948, is a taut WWII naval thriller based loosely on the real-life voyage of the German freighter Erlangen. As war breaks out in 1939, Captain Karl Ehrlich races his aging, coal‑starved ship from Australia across the Pacific and Atlantic, pursued by Allied navies. Along the way he faces moral dilemmas: a Nazi spy aboard, crew tensions and a harrowing blockade run to Europe. The novel explores duty, ruthlessness and survival at sea.
