A first edition, first printing of Geordie by David Walker, published by Collins, London in 1950. A very good copy, free from internal inscriptions, bound in original publisher’s green cloth with gilt debossed illustration to front board and gilt titling to the spine, pushing to spine tips and toning to the text block. In a very good unclipped wrapper with chipping to the spine tips, chipping to the knuckles of front flap fold and open tears to the knuckles of rear flap fold, pushing to the upper edge of rear flap fold and toning to the rear panel, hinge and upper edge. Wrapper design by Shirley Hughes.

Geordie by David Walker is an uplifting novel about a shy, undersized Scottish boy who transforms into a world-class athlete. After taking a bodybuilding course as a child, Geordie grows into a gentle giant and is eventually chosen to represent Britain in hammer throwing at the Olympics. Despite his strength, he remains humble and kind. The novel blends humour, charm and inspiration, exploring themes of personal growth and national pride.
