A first Folio Society edition, first printing of Escape From The Terror – The Journal of Madame de la Tour du Pin, edited and translated by Felice Harcourt, published by The Folio Society, London in 1979, illustrated throughout. A very fine book free from internal inscriptions, blue cloth bound boards with gilt foliate border and family arms based upon a binding by Rondeau c1800 to the front board, gilt titling to the spine, the text blocks are bright and crisp with dark magenta top stain. In violet faux leather paper bound slip case with closed tear to foot of front fore-edge.

Escape From The Terror – The Journal of Madame de la Tour du Pin is the memoir of Henriette-Lucy, a French aristocrat who lived through the French Revolution. Her journal vividly recounts her privileged life at Versailles, the horrors of the Reign of Terror, and her dramatic escape to safety. Offering rare, firsthand insight into revolutionary France, it blends personal reflection with historical detail, capturing both the downfall of the aristocracy and her resilience in exile.
