£35.00
A first Folio Society edition, first printing of Framley Parsonage by Anthony Trollope, published by The Folio Society, London in 1978, with introduction by Julian Symons and drawings by Peter Reddick. A near fine book inscribed and dated to the verso of the front free end paper in blue ink, cartographic pictorial endpapers, chartreuse paper bound boards with contemporary vertical white linear graphics, cloth spine with lightly tarnished gilt titling and similar graphics, text blocks are bright and crisp with chartreuse top stain, some light shelf wear to fore-edge of front and rear boards, light bumping to the corners, small chip to the paper of front board and some light damp-staining to the spine and half title page. In light grey paper bound slip case showing evidence of some handling wear.
Framley Parsonage by Anthony Trollope is the fourth novel, originally published in 1861, in the series called The Barsetshire Novels. It is a novel about ambition, social class and moral choices in Victorian England; it centres on Mark Robarts, a young clergyman whose desire to rise in society leads him into financial trouble. The story intertwines romance, politics and church affairs, featuring characters from earlier chronicles of Barsetshire novels. With gentle satire and keen insight, Trollope explores the tensions between personal ambition and integrity, while portraying the charm and challenges of rural English life.
