£350.00

First edition, first printing. Published by Faber & Faber in London, 1964. This is a very near fine copy. The dust wrapper, keenly illustrated by John Piper, has very little wear to note aside from one small mark to the front panel. It has not been price clipped and shows the original 18s net price. The text blocks are pristine, aside from some light spotting to the top edge. The boards are free from wear, aside from a very slight lean. This copy is free from previous owners inscriptions and is in very near fine condition.
“A dark and powerful portrait of one man’s will”, it deals with the construction of a 404-foot-high spire loosely based on Salisbury Cathedral, the vision of the fictional Dean Jocelin.
