First edition, first printing. Published by Chapman and Hall in London, 1945. This is a very good copy. As typical, the spine tips and corners are worn and separated and both panels slightly toned. The text blocks are clean throughout and free from foxing. The original publishers red cloth is faded at the spine and with some marks to both panels. The binding remains tight. “Revised Edition” hand stamped to the title-page indicating this is one of a handful of copies printed for Waugh’s own use between the 50 privately circulated copies of 1944 and a revised post-publication. Tom Driberg received a letter from Waugh on August 11th 1945 explaining the “Revised Edition” included changes to the text and 28 spelling corrections.

“Revised Edition” hand stamped to the title-page indicating this is one of a handful of copies printed for Waugh’s own use between the 50 privately circulated copies of 1944 and the 1st edition pub.
