First edition, first printing. Published by MacMillan & Co. in London, 1876. This is a very near fine copy. In the original binding with gilt illustrations R. Caldecot, with internal illustrations also by Caldecott. The gilt is bright and without any mentionable damage. The gilt text blocks are bright and unblemished, with some very slight rubbing present. There is a slight lean to the boards. The internal illustrations are present and bright. There is a small neat previous owners inscription to the half title page in black ink dated to the year of publication. Overall, this is very near fine copy.
Chronicles the American writer Washington Irving’s nostalgic recollections of Christmas traditions in 19th century England. The text first appeared in 1819 in Irving’s “Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.”
