The Trustees of The British Museum – The Rosetta Stone – First Edition 1913
£350.00
First edition, first printing. Published in 1913 by The British Museum, London. This is a very good copy. The soft covers, printed on textured paper, are bold in a dark terracotta and black titling. The original ‘sixpence’ price is printed to the front cover. The corners are slightly creased and the edges so slightly worn – small stain to the front panel which has permeated through to the prelims. The text blocks are bright and clean, though with some slight darkening. The internals are mostly clean though darkened at the corners. Printed by Harrison and Sons, ‘Printers in Ordinary to His Majesty’. Overall, this is a scarce production and in near fine condition.
A pamphlet detailing the Rosetta Stone, the aide experts learn to read Egyptian hieroglyphs (a writing system that used pictures as signs).
