A first edition, first printing of The Once and Future King by T. H. White, published by Collins, London in 1958. A near fine book with a former owner’s name to the front free end paper, gilt titling to the spine with some tarnishing, bumping to the head of the spine, some light shelf wear to the blue cloth bound boards, toning to the text block, ghosting to the front and rear free end papers and some spotting to prelims. In a very good unclipped wrapper, chipping to the spine tips and knuckles of front and rear flap folds, heavy toning to the spine and toning to the front and rear panels.

The Once and Future King by T. H. White is a retelling of the King Arthur legend, following Arthur from his childhood as “the Wart” to his reign as king. Guided by Merlin, he learns about justice and leadership. The story explores chivalry, power and human flaws through characters like Lancelot and Guinevere. Blending humour and tragedy, it reflects on idealism, war and the difficulty of creating a just society.
