Sylvia Plath – Ariel – First UK Edition 1965
£875.00
A first edition, first printing of Ariel by Sylvia Plath, published by Faber and Faber, London in 1965. This is a near fine copy free from internal inscriptions, bound in original publisher’s red cloth with minor damp-staining to lower edge of front board, gilt titling to the spine, very slight pushing to head of spine, the text block with some browning and damp-staining to top edge of text block, mild spotting to front free end paper and ghosting to rear free end paper. The near fine unclipped wrapper with fading to spine and some internal restorations to chipping at the upper and lower edges.
Ariel by Sylvia Plath is a powerful poetry collection published posthumously in 1965. The poems, known for their intense emotion and vivid imagery, reflect Plath’s struggles with mental illness, identity and personal relationships. Featuring some of her most famous works like Lady Lazarus and Daddy, the collection captures themes of despair, rebirth, and self-discovery. Plath’s distinctive voice and raw, confessional style make Ariel a seminal work in modern American poetry.
