Stephen King – The Shining – First UK Edition 1977
£675.00
A first edition, first printing of The Shining by Stephen King, published by the New English Library in 1977. A near fine book free from internal inscriptions, some pushing to the foot of the spine, with browning and spotting to the text block, spotting to prelims. In a very good unclipped wrapper with some fading to the spine, rubbing to the extremities, chipping to spine tips and knuckles of the front and rear flap folds.
The Shining by Stephen King is a horror novel centred on Jack Torrance, an aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic who becomes the winter caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel. As supernatural forces haunt the hotel, Jack’s sanity deteriorates, endangering his wife Wendy and psychic son Danny, who has “the shining,” a psychic ability that reveals the hotel’s terrifying past. The novel explores themes of madness, addiction and the destructive power of isolation.
