A first edition, first printing of One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, published by Gollancz in 1963, translated by Ralph Parker. A near fine book free from internal inscriptions, boards bound in publisher’s original red cloth with gilt titling to the spine, some browning to the text block. In a near fine unclipped wrapper with chipping to spine tips, upper knuckles of front and rear flap folds, slight browning to spine and panels a little rub worn. With bookmark issued by Vitamins Limited, illustrated from a wood engraving by Thomas Bewick.

The publication was an extraordinary event in Soviet history as it was the first time an account of Stalinist repression had been widely distributed.
