Alexander Solzhenitsyn – One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich – First UK Edition 1963
£150.00
First UK edition, first printing of One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, published by Gollancz in London, 1963. A near fine copy, without internal inscriptions, the boards free from notable chips and marks and in the original publishers red buckram, with slight pushing to the head of the spine, browning and spotting to the text block and ghosting to the front and rear free end papers. The near fine price clipped wrapper, in fine Gollancz yellow, with chipping to the spine tips, chipping to the knuckles of the front and rear flap folds, closed tears to the upper and lower edge of the rear panel and some browning to the spine and hinge of front and rear flap folds.
Translated by Ralph Parker. The publication was an extraordinary event in Soviet history as it was the first time an account of Stalinist repression had been widely distributed.
