Robert D. Ballard is an American oceanographer and explorer best known for discovering the wreck of the RMS Titanic in 1985. Born in 1942, Ballard developed a passion for underwater exploration and pioneered deep-sea submersible technology. Throughout his career, he has led numerous expeditions to explore ancient shipwrecks, including the Bismarck, USS Yorktown, and others in the Black Sea. Ballard also founded the Ocean Exploration Trust, promoting marine science and technology. His work has greatly contributed to marine archaeology and oceanography, uncovering mysteries of the deep sea and inspiring a new generation of ocean explorers.
