A first edition, first printing of ‘If This Is A Man’ by Primo Levi. Published by Orion in 1959.
A very good book without inscriptions – residue to previously removed label on the front endpaper. Spine tip faded. In the Wladislaw Finne designed dust wrapper. A very good example with a chip to the head of the spine. Light browning to the spine and some minute chipping to the edges and corners of the wrapper. Internal repair to the rear fold.
The book has been described as one of the most important literary works of the twentieth century. It describes the year Levi spent as a prisoner in Auschwitz, the death camp in Nazi-occupied Poland. Named by the Modern Library as one of the 100 best non-fiction books of the twentieth century.
