A first edition, first printing published by Faber in 1951. A very good book with eraed name to the front pastedown – some fading to the boards and a little spotting to the page block. In a very good dust wrapper with a little wear to the corners and spine tips and creasing. One neat closed tear to the top of the front panel – thin stain to the top of the rear panel.

Paul Brickhill’s “The Great Escape” remains a significant part of modern culture through its enduring influence on films, TV, and literature. The 1963 film adaptation is a classic, spawning iconic scenes and inspiring countless prison escape dramas. The phrase “The Great Escape” is a metaphor for audacious efforts. Brickhill’s book set a standard for recounting wartime heroism, and the story continues to be commemorated in events and documentaries. It has left an indelible mark, keeping the memory of the real-life escape attempts alive and serving as a symbol of human resilience in the face of adversity.
