A first edition, first printing of Roumeli by Patrick Leigh Fermor, published by John Murray in London, 1966, black and white photographs by Joan Eyres Monsell, with double-page sketch map by John Craxton, also responsible for wrapper design. A near fine book inscribed and dated in blue ink on the front free end paper, some ghosting to the spine and toning to the text block. In a near fine unclipped wrapper, open tears to spine tips, chipping to knuckles of front and rear flap folds, fading to the spine, browning to extremities and staining to rear panel.
Roumeli by Patrick Leigh Fermor is a travel memoir that takes readers through the rugged landscapes and rich histories of northern Greece, particularly the region of Roumeli. Written in Fermor’s signature style, the book combines vivid descriptions, cultural insights and historical reflections, capturing the beauty and complexity of the area. Blending personal anecdotes within a broader historical context, Roumeli explores themes of memory, identity and the interplay between people and place in a changing world.
