A first edition, first printing of Slide Rule by Nevil Shute, published by Heinemann in 1954. A near fine book without inscriptions, with slight foxing and browning to the text block and slight bumping to the head and base of the spine. In a very good unclipped wrapper with chipping to the spine tips, chipping to the knuckles of the front and rear flap folds, a closed tear to the upper edge of rear panel, and similarly a closed tear to the lower edge by the rear flap fold, fading to the spine and an open tear by the author’s name, spotting to the rear panel and hinge of front and rear flap fold, some spotting internally.

Slide Rule by Nevil Shute is an autobiographical account of his engineering career and experiences in the early aviation industry. The memoirs detail his involvement in the development of airships and aircraft, including his work on the ill-fated R100 and its rival, the R101. Shute provides insights into engineering challenges, corporate politics and the human side of technological advancement. His engaging narrative and technical expertise offer a fascinating glimpse into the pioneering days of aviation.
