Nadine Gordimer – The Conservationist – First UK Edition 1974 – with band
£385.00
A first edition, first printing by Jonathan Cape Ltd in 1974. A very good copy with slight bumping to the head of the spine. Clean internally aside from two small tape burns to the front endpaper. In a very good, unclipped wrapper with some chipping to the spine points and rubbing to the corners and edges. Some spotting on the pages, the head of which is deliberately tanned to match the cover colours. With the elusive wrap-around band announcing the book as ‘Joint winner of the 1974 Booker Prize’.
Described as more complex than Gordimer’s earlier novels, The Conservationist was the joint winner of the Booker prize in 1974. The book is set in Gordimer’s native South Africa under the apartheid regime.
