A first edition, first printing of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark, published by Macmillan, London in 1961. A very good book with bumping to the spine tips, some spotting to the top edge and fore-edge of the text block, a small damp-stain also to top edge of text block, rub-worn front and rear boards, rubbing to corners, the stamp of ‘Christy and Moore’, Spark’s literary agent, to front free end paper. In a very good unclipped wrapper with chipping to spine tips, knuckles of front and rear flap folds, an open tear to hinge of rear flap fold, some internal browning. With compliment slip of Robert Harben.

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark is a sharp, satirical novel set in 1930s Edinburgh. It follows the charismatic and unorthodox teacher Jean Brodie, who moulds a select group of girls into her ideal “crème de la crème.” As her influence grows, so do the consequences of her manipulation and romantic idealism. Blending wit, irony, and dark undertones, the novel explores themes of power, loyalty, betrayal and the complexities of education and authority.
