£8,500.00

This, the Blackwoods’ Office uncorrected proof copy, stamped by Blackwoods on title page and finals – this, the limited edition in large paper stock and not numbered, although the colophon box is blank regarding number. Being perhaps the first copy off the press, the proof is without frontispiece, several of the full page illustrations and the map in rear pocket – a number of the illustrations are ticked in pencil. In green paper coves, with some darkening to half title. Slight curling to top corners of pages at front and a minute chip to bottom of spine. An excessively scarce edition and possibly the first off the press, used by Blackwoods to configure later editions.
Tweedie was appointed as Resident of Turkish Arabia in Baghdad in 1881, a role which involved inspecting all aspects of local life, including the trade in Arabian Horses which he was especially interested in.
