A first edition, first printing of ‘Journey To the End of the Night’ published by Chatto and Windus in 1934. A very good copy without inscriptions, strangely with a bookplate to the rear of the title page. Some light wear to the corners and a little lighter marks to the boards.

The book follows Ferdinand Bardamu through World War I, colonial Africa, and industrial America. Cynical and darkly comic, the novel attacks war, capitalism, and human hypocrisy. Céline’s radical use of slang and fragmented prose revolutionised modern French literature, making the book a landmark of twentieth-century modernism.
