Interesting presentation copy. From the collection of the civil servant, John Kilfeather, and bearing his neat name and date above McGahern’s own signature. Kilfeather’s home became a shambling, bohemian meeting point for the poet John Hewitt and his socialist literary circle (his daughter, Siobhán Kilfeather, was an eminent academic, editor, and expert on 18th-century Ireland whose own work helped transform the study of the history of sexuality in Ireland. She was also a friend of McGahern’s.
