A first edition, first printing of ‘In His Own Write’ published by Cape in 1964. A very good book – surface wear and rubbing – some wear to the corners and colour repair to the spine ends. John Lennon’s signed dedication in ink on front free endpaper, ‘To Tom with love from J’. The cover photograph by Robert Freeman, price label 9s. 6d. to the front pastedown.
The book was gifted to the previous vendor’s grandfather who knew Paul McCartney, and grew up close to him in Liverpool. A superb strong signature.
A collection of surreal stories, poems, and drawings reflecting his playful wordplay and absurdist humour. Influenced by Lewis Carroll and The Goon Show, the book reveals Lennon’s inventive language, sharp wit, and darker undercurrents beneath its whimsical surface. Published at the height of Beatlemania, it demonstrated his artistic range beyond music, earning critical praise and solidifying his reputation as a multidimensional creative talent.
