John Hunt – The Ascent of Everest – First UK Edition 1953 – SIGNED by Alfred Gregory
£485.00
A first edition, first printing published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1953. A near fine book without inscriptions. In a very good, lightly nicked dust wrapper with some light fading to the spine which has two small stains. SIGNED without dedication to the front endpaper by the photographer on the 1953 expedition, Alfred Gregory.
Alfred Gregory was a British mountaineer and photographer best known for his involvement in early twentieth-century Himalayan exploration. He took part in the 1922 British Everest expedition, contributing valuable photographic records of high-altitude climbing. Gregory’s work helped document the challenges and ambitions of Britain’s early Everest attempts. Though not as famous as Mallory, he played an important supporting role in the history of modern mountaineering. His images remain significant historical sources for scholars and historians.
