£2,500.00
A first edition, first printing published by Putnam in 1934. A near fine book without inscriptions. Some darker shade spotting to the spine. In a fine unclipped wrap (7’6) with slight bumping to the head and foot of the spine. Sunlight stains on the inside of the front and rear flaps. The jacket is wrapped in an original paper band, ‘Evening Standard Book of the Month, selected by Howard Spring.’ Overall a unique near fine copy. The best we have seen in superb condition.
The writing itself is praised for its lush prose, atmospheric storytelling, and intricate narratives. The collection weaves enchanting tales filled with mystery, passion, and dark beauty. Dinesen’s mastery of the gothic genre, coupled with evocative settings and complex characters, contributes to the enduring excellence of the work.
