£95.00
A first American edition, first printing of Through The Woods by H. E. Bates, published by Macmillan, New York in 1936, with 73 wood engravings by Agnes Miller Parker. A near fine book without inscriptions, red cloth boards with gilt title to the spine, the spine lightly faded, the head and foot of the spine slightly bumped, the text block with light spotting and browning, spotting and ghosting to the front and rear paste-downs and similarly the free end papers, the front free end paper with an open tear. In a near fine unclipped wrapper with some browning and fading to the spine, light chipping to the spine tips and corners, an open tear to the spine, chips to the upper and lower edges.
Through the Woods by H. E. Bates is a collection of poignant short stories set in the English countryside. Each tale explores the complexities of human nature against the backdrop of rural life, delving into themes of love, loss and longing. Bates’ lyrical prose vividly paints scenes of nature and characters, evoking a sense of nostalgia and introspection. Through twists of fate and moments of revelation, these stories resonate with timeless truths about the human experience.
