A first edition, first printing of ‘The Cretan Runner’ published by John Murray in 1955. A very good book with one neat name to the head of the endpaper. Some pushing to the corners and spine tips. In a good clipped wrapper with internal tape repairs, edgewear and chipping to the spine tail.

The Cretan Runner: His Story of the German Occupation is a memoir written by George Psychoundakis, a young Cretan resistance fighter during World War II. The book provides a firsthand account of the German occupation of Crete and the heroic efforts of the Cretan resistance, who collaborated with British agents to sabotage the enemy and gather intelligence. The dust wrapper was designed by Baynes and the novel was translated by Patrick Leigh Fermor.
