First limited edition, first printing. Published by The Queen Anne Press in London, 1952. This is a near fine copy. Issued in a number of 950 copies (the first fifty of which were signed by the author and illustrator), this is number 311. The title page is set in Perpetua and the text in 14-point Pilgrim. Printed on Spicers’ mould-made Cream Wove paper. The buckram boards are toned as evidenced in the listing, most notably at the left-hand side of the front panel, and the spine. The text blocks, rough-cut at the side edge, are clean and free from foxing. This copy is free from additional inscriptions, other than the limitation number. Overall, this is a near fine copy.

Based on an article Waugh wrote for Life Magazine. “The Plight of the Holy Places,” (24 December 1951) after visiting Israel Palestine in 1951 with his friend Christopher Sykes.
