A first edition, first printing of the poems of Dylan Thomas with the signature of the artist, Laurence Whistler to the front free end-paper. Internally very good with a very good dustwrapper which is chipped at extremities and with internal tape repairs. The rear of the wrappers has been used by Laurence Whistler to sketch out two designs for the wrappers around his 1956 book of poems entitled “The View from This Window”. Loosely inserted is a third design similar to the two on the rear of the wrapper. The book was finally published with an alternative design, by Whistler. A wonderful association.
The book itself contains the poem ‘When, like a running grave’ on page 18 – influential in Robert Galbraith’s superb Cormoran Strike novel, ‘The Running Grave’.
